Ingredients

for 4 servings

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups neutral oil, for frying
  • 4 slices 3-inch thick Japanese milk bread slices
  • 12 fresh strawberries, trimmed

Preparation

  1. In a bowl, use an electric hand mixer to whip the heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla extract until fluffy. Set aside in the fridge.
  2. In a medium saucepan on medium heat, heat the oil to 350°F. Fry each slice of milk bread individually, making sure to fully submerge the bread, for about 1 minute on each side or until golden brown.
  3. Transfer the bread to a cutting board, and slice each piece in half diagonally, and then carefully split each down the center with a sharp knife.
  4. Gently separate the bread to make an opening, and fill the pocket with the whipped cream.
  5. Add strawberries on top, and repeat with the rest of the bread.
  6. Enjoy!
