Air-Fryer Monkey Bread Skewers

This sweet treat is a fun twist on a delicious classic. Homemade dough is rolled into balls, coated in cinnamon sugar, placed on skewers, and air-fried until golden perfection. Finish this fun breakfast or dessert with a vanilla glaze, and serve individually!

Ingredients

for 6 skewers

  • avocado oil spray, for greasing

Cinnamon Roll Topping:

  • ¼ cup (1/2 stick) salted butter, melted
  • ½ cup dark brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup

Cinnamon Sugar Coating:

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

Monkey Bread Dough:

  • 1 ¼ cups self-rising flour, (see below for homemade self-rising flour recipe)
  • 1 cup greek yogurt
  • 6 wooden skewers

Vanilla Glaze:

  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Homemade Self-Rising Flour:

  • 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt

Preparation

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 325°F (160°C). Grease the air fryer basket with avocado oil spray.
  2. Make the topping: In a medium bowl, add the melted butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup. Use a spoon to mix until smooth. Set aside.
  3. Make the coating: In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon until well combined. Set aside.
  4. Make the dough: In a large bowl, add the self-rising flour and Greek yogurt. Use a spoon to mix until a dough forms. The dough will be a bit sticky. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface, sprinkle the top with some more flour, and bring together with your hands. Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces, then divide each piece into 4 smaller pieces, for 24 pieces total.
  5. Use your hands to roll each piece into a ball, then roll them in the cinnamon sugar until evenly coated. Slide 4 coated balls through each skewer.
  6. Place the skewers into the prepared air fryer basket. Pour half of the topping over the top of the skewers.
  7. Air fry for 9-10 minutes. Open the lid and pour the remaining topping over the skewers. Air fry for another 9-10 minutes, until golden brown.
  8. Meanwhile, make the glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  9. Place the skewers on a plate and drizzle with the glaze.
  10. Serve warm, and enjoy!
